Turn Off The Pressure Please

Earthquakes around the world have left many displaced. The people of Turkey and Syria have had their fair share of trials with the survivors grateful for life yet uncertain about tomorrow.
In Nigeria, the land I call home, it has been a different case all together as we have made history and yet again beaten our world record as the one nation which exports crude oil and imports refined products such as diesel, kerosine, petrol and aviation fuel amongst others. This aberration has left us with major hikes in transportation prices – no thanks to the Russia Ukraine war (they say), and of course the very regular scarcity of fuel which has worsened inflation and left many frustrated and some stranded.
But just when we thought that was the worst, Nigeria, the giant of Africa made history with Naira scarcity. Yep. Naira scarcity, leading to people buying Naira notes as a result of the shortage of the new currency in circulation after the redesign of the old N200, N500 and N1000 notes.
Black markets have now become the order of the day. Black market to buy the dollar, black market to buy fuel and black market to buy the Naira. Now frustrated people have taken to the streets, causing gridlocks leading to more fuel being burnt and more Naira being needed to buy fuel from the black market. Some people have been unable to go to work because of the riots, while there’s a general feeling of uncertainty around the nation. This seems like a good time to say when the going gets tough the tough get going but I fear you all might just roll your eyes in sarcasm or even stop reading this post all together. But hold on.
I’d like to tweak that saying a bit to when the going gets tough, God gets going. When it seems like you can’t take it anymore you can rest knowing that God has got you, and he will not let the waters drawn you. When you feel like swearing for the government or throwing a punch at everyone and everything, take a deep breath and say a little word of prayer and God your father will definitely come through for you.
Don’t throw in the towel. Don’t give up hope. Don’t run yourself down. Don’t give up. Hold on. When you are not sure where the next meal will come from, hold on. God is still in the business of miracles, he will come through for you. How about that job you have been hoping for? Yeah, hold on, God will turn up for you in grand style.
I do not know what pressure you are going through. The good news is Yahweh knows. He is your ever present help. Talk to Him. Cry to Him. Someday soon you will be smiling, laughing and rejoicing.
That said, the elections are here. This is a very great time to institute the change we all so badly desire. Pray for direction from God as you cast your vote.
May God’s will be done in Jesus name, amen.
